Universally renowned as one of the most celebrated and influential artists of the twentieth century, Picasso was born in Spain, grew up there and then moved to France where he lived and worked as an artist and also died. He is known to have created more than 20,000 ceramics, drawings, paintings, sculptures and other things such as costumes during his long career as an artist. He was recognised during his own life time thanks to his curious ability to create works in a surprising range of styles from his youth onward. His work has undoubtedly touched the lives of many around the world, including great artists, during and after his death. In his own words this was his very “encounter” with the world.
