Alexander Calder

The Philadelphia born sculpture known for his “mobiles”, very well balanced wire, thread and stick constructions that could be moved by a touch of air, received his first degree in Engineering, but would later go to study at Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. While in Paris, his art became increasingly abstract. Calder also specialized in graphic art, gouaches, and jewelry.
