This year we celebrate Brancusi, featuring the photographs of the Mlle Pogany sculptures seen through the artists eye and his process documenting the works progress. Photography was an important part of Brancusi's work as an artist and he explored the new medium with passion. This group of unique vintage Brancusi photographs is one of the rarest collections in the world. Brancusi said " When the sculptures no longer exist the photographs will live on ". Such is the significance of photography to Brancusi.
This year acclaimed Brâncuși exhibitions in Timisorara, Romania, The Artizon Museum in Tokyo and The Centre Pomidou in Paris have heavily featured his photographs as an important element of the artist's work which also provides a window into his studio. Grob Gallery prides itself as being one of the leading world experts of Brâncuși & his Photographs.
Our second showcase is the legend William Klein. Works included are ‘Painted Contacts’ and large format vintage vogue prints. Klein was known for his innovative approach to street photography, New York was the playing field. The two were in symbiosis, his explosive style that took shape in a city finding itself “… I thought New York had it coming, that it needed a kick in the balls. When I returned to New York, I wanted to get even. Now I had a weapon, photography" William Klein. Klein's keen eye captured an era of urban life with its raw intensity. His dynamic compositions are a spirit of a period lost in time.
Grob Gallery is excited to invite you into our conversations at Booth A44 AIPAD. We will also showcase a selection of vintage works by Man Ray, Kertesz, Sougez, Tabard, Newton, Charles Jones, Frantisek Drtikol, and Brassai.
